The masterplan and architectural concept design for this site near Newcastle, NSW, provides an opportunity to create a new community for residential aged care with an authentic sense of place integrated with its surroundings. It will provide facilities for ‘ageing in place’ allowing residents to forge bonds with their neighbours and the wider community in their senior years.
The Masterplan creates a hub that offers active and passive spaces for intergenerational activity with wellbeing a central tenet of its placemaking. An Early Learning Centre, Resilient Families & Communities services space, community space and gym, all reachable from the public domain invite the surrounding community into the site to connect with the residents. Several configurations and densities were explored for the site to best capitalise on the potential of the site to fulfil its mission of ensuring the wellbeing of our senior members of society.
