Matro AUS/NZ Pavilion Shopping Centre

CM+ is the architect behind the unique design of the Australia / New Zealand Pavilion, located within the Matro Boutique Village in Suzhou, China. 

This four-hectare site, adjacent to the ancient Suzhou City Wall, features 22 heritage brick warehouses that have been restored and transformed into Matro Boutique Village—a stylish destination for shopping, culture, and leisure that includes a small luxury hotel and a multi-function event space. 

The Village’s retail component comprises a luxury goods shopping centre set within landscaped gardens, with individual pavilions showcasing famous, high-end brands from around the world.  

The two-storey Australian and New Zealand boutique is in one of the restored warehouses, with CM+ providing full architectural and interior design services. It offers designer, luxury products and brands across categories including health and beauty, wellness, baby, home, fashion, food and beverages. 

The boutique entry features a structural entry canopy made from folded, bronze steel that reflects the iconic roof form of the Sydney Opera House. It is complemented by garden beds filled with native Australian and New Zealand plants and polished stainless-steel artworks depicting animals from both countries. The unique interior with its seamless flow of space maximises the customer’s shopping experience and includes an installation by Sydney artist Amy Thai made from over 150,000 preserved native flowers, that interpret the wide-ranging Australian landscape.
