17-21 Charlotte Street is a suite of four heritage listed shops located at the corner of Charlotte Street and Elizabeth Street, Ashfield.
They were originally constructed in 1923 by George Pitt Wood and the building is a rare example of this type of development as it retains all original features including the ornate pressed metal ceiling under the awning, interior plaster ceiling and glazed brick and tile façade decoration.
CM+ was engaged to retain and restore the building’s heritage features, whilst upgrading the building for contemporary retail use. The shop fronts were restored including replacement of damaged lead lights and coloured glass, to match existing heritage conditions. The refurbished façades and awning provide a fresh look to Ashfield’s history while contributing positively to its streetscape of adjacent buildings, also of local heritage significance.
