CM+ provided the urban and landscape design, and associated Minister’s Approval documentation for this upgrade of 17 kilometres of the Pacific Highway, in the Northern Rivers Region of NSW.
The project traverses highly scenic coastal and pastoral landscapes with significant agricultural, tourism and community values. The visual, social, cultural and environmental significance of the region has been of utmost importance in the development and refinement of the urban and landscape design.
The project consists of 17 kilometres of divided, four lane, motorway standard carriageway, a 440 metre long tunnel through the St Helena escarpment, three major interchanges, seven twin bridges over creeks, existing roads and railway lines, two feature bridges over the Pacific Highway, and major earthworks, including the significant Arundel Cut.
A 600 metre long transparent noise wall at the northern tunnel portal will allow views over Byron Bay, whilst vegetated noise mitigation mounds at interchanges and at the Newrybar Public School will minimise potential impacts on neighbouring communities.
