Conybeare Morrison’s masterplan concept for Mary Harbour is closer to becoming a reality today as Fraser Coast Regional Council endorsed a new local plan for Granville.

The plan provides a new harbour as a key place making element on the Mary River, providing the identity around which the new community will grow.

The Harbour scheme will create lifestyle options for a diverse population based around water and foreshore activities while strengthening links to Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast as a regional ‘gateway’.

Following public consultation in April and November 2012 for Granville and St Helens and May and November 2012 for Nikenbah, draft local plans and vision statements were developed which then went out for public comment and state government review. As a result of the feedback, Council has amended the Draft Granville Local Plan.

‘Adopting the Granville Local Plan brings certainty for landowners and developers,’ City and Town Centre Development Portfolio Councillor Daniel Sanderson said.  ‘There has been a lot of interest in the Granville area in regards to expanding the residential footprint of the city.’
